NBA legend Dwyane Wade appeared in an interview with Shannon Sharpe a few months ago. They talked about basketball, the NBA and Wade’s personal life. Specifically in focus was Wade’s relationship with his wife – Gabrielle Union. Wade, who has fathered 2 children with Union, also had a child with Aja Metoyer, back in 2013.
In 2013, Wade and Union were undergoing a brief split. At that time, it appears Wade got with Metoyer. As a result, he fathered a child with Metoyer. Though Wade and Union got engaged after the incident and have been happily married for 7 years, Wade says the incident still affects them. When asked about his thought process while revealing the news to Union, he said, “You got a lot on your mind. You’re keeping something from people you love, and it’s heavy,” Wade said. “At night, when it gets quiet, when it’s just you and your thoughts, them thoughts is loud.”
He also went on to add, “It hasn’t been perfect. It will never be perfect. We go to therapy, been to therapy. We’ve had shouts about it, regular conversations about it. It’s going to continue to be something that I have to work…”
Union has also previously released her own book in which she talks about her relationship with Wade following the incident. She said it greatly impacted her mental health and she still has to visit a therapist for the issue. According to them, while their marriage is far from perfect, they still make it work. Perhaps that is why it is still going strong, even after 7 years.
