Bellator MMA light heavyweight Yoel Romero still has the hopes of becoming a world champion someday even at the age of 45. Though he is easily one of the best fighters in our era that never won a belt in their younger days, Romero has accomplished a lot of experience in his time in combat sports. From being an Olympic Silver medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling to fighting for UFC’s middleweight title 3 times, Romero has hit the top-tier competition multiple times.
Regardless, Romero’s fighting spirit has never satiated even in his mid-forties and is now looking forward to locking the path to a gold strap with every fight he fights, just like his last fight at Bellator 280, where he knocked out his opponent Alex Polizzi in the last second of the last round. Romero is now scheduled to fight fellow MMA legend Melvin Manhoef in September 2022, in Dublin, Ireland.

Yoel Romero claims to live healthy life, therefore can drop back to 185 lbs easily
In a post-fight interview of Bellator 280, Romero talked about his chances for a title shot in the future but not at the weight where he is fighting, but at the weight class where he once fought.
“Any victory to me is important. They’re all equally important,” Romero told reporters in Spanish through an interpreter. “I’m going to rest about a week. I have no injuries. As you saw, they brought Melvin Manhoef into the cage, but I see further than that. I feel as if I’m gonna do another fight at 185 and continue on the route and get in line for that belt… Yes, of course. I live a very healthy life. If everything goes well against Manhoef, then I don’t see why I wouldn’t be able to contend for the title belt at 185 next fight.” [h/t MMA Junkie]
