Andrew Dice Clay was born in Sheepshead, Bay, Brooklyn, New York, U.S. on 29th September 1957. His original birth name was given to him by his parents as Andrew Clay Silverstein. his father’s name is Fred Silverstein and his mother is Jacqueline. He was raised in New York only. He is Jewish by religion. In siblings, he has only one sister.

Andrew’s father Fred was a real estate agent and boxer by profession. During his childhood, he was a very aspiring kid who wanted to do many things at once. He loved playing the drums and big band music. As a teenager, he attended many band shows and was also chosen as a drummer on the Catskill Mountains in the 1970s. His school’s name was James Madison High School.

He created his own little band with his friends by the name of ” Clay Silvers” and started playing in wedding functions. He dropped out of his higher education because he wanted to be a full-time Comedian.

Andrew Dice Clay started his career as a stand-up comedian after dropping out of university in 1978.

He gave an audition at Pips Comedy Club in Sheepshead Bay, his hometown. It was after that his career sky-rocketed. His first character on impression was a character name “The Diceman ” after which he grew popular by this name only. This character was mainly based on Jerry Lewis as Buddy Love from The nutty Professor play.

Then later in 1980, Clay shifted to Los Angeles and started working at a Comedy Store Owned by Mitzi Shore. It was there that he changed his stage name to Andrew Dice Clay. He was a big hit by that time. He did many sitcoms too such as “M*A*S*H”, “Diff’rent Strokes”, “Making the Grade” , ” Pretty in Pink” and many more.

In 1989, he was named under the Comedy Act of the Year by Performance Magazine.

Andrew Dice Clay became the first comedian to sell out 2 consecutive nights at Madison Square Garden in February 1990 in NYC. His shows were always housing full totalling even more than 38,000 people in total. In 1993, he was proposed by the ABC channel for a one-hour television drama but he was too controversial for the same.
